The Impact of First Bite for Baby’s Growth & Development

Phnom Penh, February 2017 – the First 1,000 Days of Life is the very critical stage of human life because the nutrition, which baby receives during the first 1,000 days of life can have a positive influence on how they develop, grow, and learn, not just now but for the rest of his or her whole life.

The First 1,000 Days of Life started from pregnancy period until the baby reaches 2 years old and here are the 3 critical points of human development:

1. Pregnancy period (280 days in the womb): is a critical period, in this period the brain, heart, lungs, digestion, kidney of the baby is in the formation period.
2. 0 – 6 months old baby: this period is the transition period for the baby to adapt with the environment from the womb.

According to WHO guideline, it is recommended for mothers to give exclusive breastfeeding from 0-6 month’s old baby.
